BLUE is an export beer, a low-fermentation beer type that was very popular in the 1950 s.
At that time, heavy manual labor was very important and the workers regularly drank beer.

In the 1950 s, exports had a lower alcohol content than the regular lager and it was always offered in 33cl. In this way, the workers could drink more beer, without their labor performance having to suffer.
Today, the export of beer from Brouwerij Omer Vander Ghinde bears the name BLUE, because this was the color of the clothing that the workers had to work.
It is still offered in 33cl bottles, but now has the same alcohol percentage as the lager. (5.2% vol.)
